A Markovian model for reliability and other performance measures

چکیده
Several studies have been undertaken in recent years to investigate the software failure phenomenon, with the objective of developing analytical models for quantitative assessment of software performance. Most of these studies assume that the times between software failures follow an exponential distribution with a failure rate that depends on the number of errors in the system (see, for example, Jelinski and Moranda,5 Littlewood and Verra1l6 and Shoomanll). A key assumption made in most of these studies is that the errors are removed with certainty when detected. However, as pointed out in Miyamot07 and Thayer et al.,l2 errors are not always corrected when detected. The existing models do not provide a solution for such situations. In this paper we develop a Markovian model, which we call an Imperfect Debugging Model (IDM), for studying software failures when ermrs are not removed/corrected with certainty, i.e., for the case of imperfect debugging. Also, expressions are derived for the following probabilistic performance measures:

Monte Carlo Simulation to Compare Markovian and Neural Network Models for Reliability Assessment in Multiple AGV Manufacturing System
We compare two approaches for a Markovian model in flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) using Monte Carlo simulation. The model which is a development of Fazlollahtabar and Saidi-Mehrabad (2013), considers two features of automated flexible manufacturing systems equipped with automated guided vehicle (AGV) namely, the reliability of machines and the reliability of AGVs in a multiple AGV jobsho...

متن کاملANALYSIS OF FINITE BUFFER RENEWAL INPUT QUEUE WITH BALKING AND MARKOVIAN SERVICE PROCESS
This paper presents the analysis of a renewal input finite buffer queue wherein the customers can decide either to join the queue with a probability or balk. The service process is Markovian service process ($MSP$) governed by an underlying $m$-state Markov chain. Employing the supplementary variable and imbedded Markov chain techniques, the steady-state system length distributions at pre...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of a Repairable Robot Safety System with Standby, Imperfect Coverage and Reboot Delay
The present study deals with a robot safety system composed of standby robot units and inbuilt safety unit. When the main operative unit fails, it is replaced by the standby robot unit available in the system. The concept of reboot delay is also incorporated in this study according to which the robot unit is rebooted if it is not successfully recovered. The recovery and reboot times of failed u...
متن کاملA Non-Preemptive Two-Class M/M/1 System with Prioritized Real-Time Jobs under Earliest-Deadline-First Policy
This paper introduces an analytical method for approximating the performance of a two-class priority M/M/1 system. The system is fully non-preemptive. More specifically, the prioritized class-1 jobs are real-time and served with the non-preemptive earliest-deadline-first (EDF) policy, but despite their priority cannot preempt any non real-time class-2 job. The waiting class-2 jobs can only be s...
